External Fellowships and Scholarships

There are many external sources of funding that award competitive fellowships and grants to graduate students. Winning a fellowship is a great boost for your resume/CV. Please note, eligibility requirements will vary greatly among fellowships. Many federally-funded fellowships have strict requirements about citizenship/residency status.

It is a good idea to ask your faculty mentor or program advisor/director for guidance on which fellowships to apply for, as they’ll know which awards prior students in your program have won. Furthermore, work with your mentors on your application, as you’ll likely need to submit high-quality personal and/or research statements.
